03 / SURROUNDING NATURE
Slow down.
Look a little closer.
Harilaq’s landscape is the beginning. In the surrounding region, Golesh and the Henc wetland open new conversations about nature.

LOCAL LANDSCAPE
The hill, the village,
the horizon.
Field photographs show the connection between ruins, trees and the plain beyond. Choose a permitted place to pause and compare nearby details with the distant horizon.

GOLESH / IN THE REGION
A world of plants
to discover.
A study published in Natura Croatica in 2019 documents 295 plant taxa on Golesh, including eight endemic taxa. Fieldwork took place in 2015–2017. The recorded plants include Forsythia europaea. [N01]
These figures refer to the surveyed Golesh area, not just the fortress hill. A taxon may represent a species or a subspecies.

HENC–RADEVA / IN THE REGION
A refuge
for birds.
AMMK records the wetland’s designation as a special protected bird area in 2014. Its announcement lists 78 bird species recorded at that time. [N02]
The wetland is a separate destination in the surrounding region. The historical count does not predict sightings on a visit. Access and observation points should be confirmed locally.
Observe.
Photograph.
Leave it undisturbed.
A good visit leaves room for the life already there.
- Do not pick plants or take stones or fragments.
- Observe birds from a distance and keep noise low.
- Use permitted routes and take your litter with you.
